Is the Beretta PX4 Storm legal in California?
Yes. 3 versions of the Beretta PX4 Storm are on the California DOJ Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale as of October 27, 2026, so California dealers can sell those exact versions new. Only the specific versions listed on this page are certified: a different finish, barrel length or caliber that is not listed is off-roster and can only be bought through a private party transfer at a licensed dealer.

About the Beretta PX4 Storm
The Beretta PX4 Storm is a polymer-framed, semi-automatic pistol manufactured by Beretta, the Italian firearms company. It uses a rotating barrel lockup system and is designed for duty, home defense, and civilian sport shooting.
How the California versions differ
- Two calibers are available: 9mm (PX4 Storm Type F JXF9F20) and .40 S&W (Type F and Type G).
- All three versions share the same 4-inch barrel length.
- The Type F models feature a traditional double-action/single-action (DA/SA) trigger with a manual safety and decocking lever, allowing the user to safely lower the hammer.
- The Type G model also uses a DA/SA trigger but replaces the manual safety with a decocking-only lever, meaning the hammer is automatically lowered after each shot without providing a manual safety lock.
- The Type G is offered only in .40 S&W on the California roster, while the 9mm variant listed is Type F only.
Who it suits
The PX4 Storm family is well suited to home defense users, range shooters, and those who prefer a full-size polymer pistol with a traditional DA/SA trigger system. The Type G variant may appeal to those who want a decocking-only setup without a manual safety.
