About the Browning 1911-22
The Browning 1911-22 is a rimfire pistol manufactured by Browning, built on an aluminum alloy frame and styled closely after the classic M1911 design. Chambered in .22 LR, it is intended as a lightweight training and plinking pistol that mimics the controls and feel of a full-sized 1911.
How the California versions differ
- Barrel length / size: Full Size versions have a 4.25" barrel, while Compact versions have a shorter 3.625" barrel.
- Grips: Some versions ship with wood grips and others with plastic (polymer) grips, affecting feel and appearance.
- Finish / color: Most versions feature a standard blued or black finish; two versions — the Gray Full Size and Gray Compact — are offered in a gray finish.
- Model designation: All California-listed versions carry the A1 designation, indicating the updated A1 variant of the 1911-22 line.
Who it suits
The Browning 1911-22 is well suited to new shooters learning handgun fundamentals, experienced 1911 owners seeking an affordable rimfire trainer, and casual recreational shooters looking for a low-recoil plinking pistol with classic styling.
