About the FN 502
The FN 502 is a semi-automatic rimfire pistol manufactured by FN America. It is chambered in .22 LR and is designed as a training and recreational shooting pistol, sharing ergonomics and controls with FN's centerfire pistol lineup to allow skill-transferable practice.
How the California versions differ
- Both versions are chambered in .22 LR with a 4-inch barrel, so caliber and barrel length are identical.
- The 502 MRD (Black) features an all-black finish, while the 502 CA MRD (FDE) features a Flat Dark Earth (FDE) color finish.
- Both versions include an MRD (Miniature Red Dot) optics cut on the slide, making them compatible with popular compact red dot sights.
- The "CA" designation in the FDE model's name indicates it is specifically listed on the California DOJ roster under that product name; both listed versions are on the roster.
Who it suits
The FN 502 is well suited to new shooters looking for an affordable, low-recoil pistol for range practice, as well as experienced shooters who want to train with a platform that closely mirrors the feel and controls of a full-sized duty pistol.
