About the Rock Island Armory AP9 / MAPP
Rock Island Armory, the export brand of Philippine manufacturer Armscor, produces the AP9 and MAPP as polymer-framed, striker-fired pistols chambered in 9mm. They are designed as compact to full-size defensive handguns offering a straightforward, budget-accessible option for personal protection and range use.
How the California versions differ
- All three versions are chambered in 9mm — no caliber differences exist within this roster listing.
- The AP9 FS (Full Size) features a 4.5" barrel, making it the largest of the three and better suited to a duty-style or home-defense role.
- The AP9 MS and MAPP1 MS both share a 3.8" barrel, placing them in a more compact, easier-to-carry category.
- The MAPP1 MS represents a separate product line from the AP9 MS; while barrel length is identical, the MAPP series features updated ergonomics and styling compared to the AP9 platform.
- Beyond barrel length and model designation, no additional finish, sight, or optics-cut differences are confirmed by the roster listing alone.
Who it suits
The AP9 / MAPP family suits budget-conscious buyers looking for an entry-level 9mm pistol for home defense or casual range shooting, with the FS model better for home use and the MS variants more practical for those considering everyday carry.
