Is the Kahr PM9 legal in California?
Yes. 6 versions of the Kahr PM9 are on the California DOJ Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale as of October 27, 2026, so California dealers can sell those exact versions new. Only the specific versions listed on this page are certified: a different finish, barrel length or caliber that is not listed is off-roster and can only be bought through a private party transfer at a licensed dealer.

About the Kahr PM9
Kahr Arms manufactures the PM9, a subcompact, polymer-framed semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm Luger. It is designed as a slim, lightweight handgun intended primarily for concealed carry and personal protection.
How the California versions differ
- All six listed versions share the same caliber (9mm) and barrel length (3 inches), so differences are in configuration and finish details rather than size or power.
- Model numbers ending in A (PM9093A, PM9094A) indicate a matte stainless slide finish, while those ending in NA (PM9093NA, PM9094NA) indicate a matte black, non-reflective slide finish.
- The PM9093 variants are configured with night sights, while the PM9094 variants are configured with standard drift-adjustable sights, which accounts for the price difference where MSRPs are listed.
- Two versions — PM9093A and PM9094NA — are listed with a serial number tag on the grip, reflecting a California-specific serialization placement requirement for those particular roster entries.
- MSRP is listed for four of the six versions; PM9093NA and PM9094NA do not have a price listed in the roster database.
Who it suits
The PM9 is best suited to experienced shooters seeking a compact, easily concealed everyday carry pistol. Its slim profile also makes it a practical option as a backup or off-duty firearm.
