Is the SIG Sauer P365 legal in California?
Yes. 7 versions of the SIG Sauer P365 are on the California DOJ Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale as of October 26, 2026, so California dealers can sell those exact versions new. Only the specific versions listed on this page are certified: a different finish, barrel length or caliber that is not listed is off-roster and can only be bought through a private party transfer at a licensed dealer.

About the SIG Sauer P365
SIG Sauer is an American firearms manufacturer headquartered in Newington, New Hampshire. The P365 is a compact, striker-fired semi-automatic pistol designed primarily for concealed carry, offering a relatively high magazine capacity in a small frame.
How the California versions differ
- Caliber: Most versions are chambered in 9mm; the 365AXG-380-COMP-LUXE-MS-CA is chambered in .380 ACP.
- Frame size and platform: Listings include the standard P365, the larger P365X (365X prefix), the P365XL (365XL prefix), and the AXG platform (365AXG prefix), which uses a metal grip module.
- Optics and compensator: Several versions carry a COMP designation, indicating an integrated compensator, while the MS designation across all versions indicates a manual safety and optics-ready slide.
- Finish: The SL suffix on two listings indicates a stainless or lightened slide variant, and the LUXE suffix on the .380 model suggests an upgraded aesthetic finish.
- Special editions: The LEGION variant denotes SIG's premium Legion series with enhanced components, and the ROSE variant features a rose-themed cosmetic finish.
Who it suits
The P365 family is well suited to concealed carry permit holders and home defense users who want a compact, lightweight pistol. The variety of frame sizes and finishes in the California roster allows buyers to choose a configuration that fits their hand size, carry style, and personal preference.
