About the Springfield Armory XD-M Elite
Springfield Armory is a U.S.-based firearms manufacturer headquartered in Genesboro, Illinois. The XD-M Elite is a striker-fired, polymer-frame semi-automatic pistol built on the XD-M platform, designed for self-defense, home protection, and recreational shooting.
How the California versions differ
- All four listed versions are chambered in 9mm — there are no other caliber options on the California roster for this family.
- Barrel length splits into two groups: the 3.8-inch models (XD-M Elite 3.8 OSP-CA and XD-M Elite Compact 3.8 OSP-CA) and the 4.5-inch models (XD-M Elite 4.5 OSP-CA and XDME9459BCA), with the longer barrel generally offering a longer sight radius.
- The "Compact" designation on the XD-M Elite Compact 3.8 OSP-CA indicates a shorter grip frame compared to the standard 3.8-inch model, despite sharing the same barrel length.
- All four versions carry an OSP (Optical Sight Pistol) designation or optics-ready slide, meaning each is factory-milled to accept a direct-mount red dot sight.
- The XDME9459BCA is listed by SKU rather than a marketing name, but shares the 4.5-inch barrel and 9mm chambering with the XD-M Elite 4.5 OSP-CA and may reflect a finish or configuration variant.
Who it suits
The XD-M Elite family suits shooters looking for a versatile, optics-ready 9mm for home defense or range use, with the Compact model being a reasonable consideration for those prioritizing a more concealable grip profile.
