What these changes mean for California buyers
A handgun has to be on the roster for a California dealer to sell it new. Newly added models can be ordered right away, though stock often takes a few weeks to reach stores. Each version is certified separately, so a different finish, barrel length or caliber of the same model may not be on the roster. Check the exact version before you buy. Every purchase still needs a Firearm Safety Certificate, a background check and the 10-day waiting period.
